Pace Institute

Safer Foundation understands that one of the keys to having a sustainable impact is to offer a continuum of care from incarceration to home.

Pace Institute

As a division of the Safer Foundation's Education Services Department, PACE Institute offers Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC) detainees seeking to improve their education level training in adult literacy and helps prepare them for their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).

PACE utilizes innovative teaching techniques to improve student engagement, in addition to traditional texts and methods. PACE staff and volunteers provide instruction in three core areas:

  • Math - The math curriculum has fifteen objectives, beginning with addition and subtraction and continuing through algebraic word problems.
  • Writing - The writing courses have thirteen objectives, ranging from sentence logic to inventive composition.
  • Reading - The reading curriculum centers around seven objectives as students learn everything from decoding to inference.

PACE delivers services to six divisions within CCDOC and has an independent study program.
