Training to Work Program

Training to Work (T2W) is a workforce development program targeted to residents of Safer’s Adult Transition Centers (ATC). Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, T2W provides incarcerated individuals with training and employment services so they can gain the skills necessary to succeed in in-demand occupations upon reintegrating back into society.

Participants receive case management, mentoring, education and training that leads to industry-recognized credentials in demand sectors, such as:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Computer numerical control (CNC)
  • Culinary Arts
  • Foodservice and sanitation
  • Forklift operation
  • Microsoft digital literacy
  • Welding

The DOL’s Training to Work program aims to improve the long-term labor market prospects for returning citizens. That means helping them secure employment that provides a substantial living wage.

“It’s because they do such great work that the Labor Department has invested in the Safer Foundation’s ability to help people turn their lives around. We’ve awarded them grants totaling $7 million since 2013, as part of our Training to Work-Adult Reentry and Face Forward programs.” ---U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Jan. 27 2016
