Jerry Butler Joined Safer Foundation in 2001

Mr. Butler retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in 2000 after 31 years of service. During his tenure, he held a variety of administrative/leadership positions within the agency, retiring as Superintendent, Illinois Youth Center, St. Charles, IL. Prior to the appointment as Superintendent, Mr. Butler held the position of Administrator-Employee Services in which he held agency-wide responsibility for the Human Resources Department. In that capacity, he was the agency’s chief spokesperson in all matters involving labor relations and personnel.
Mr. Butler has an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and advanced courses from George Williams College in Administration and Organizational Behavior. Jerry elected on two occasions to serve as President, Illinois Correctional Association. During his leadership, membership increased dramatically and ICA was awarded the American Correctional Associations Blanch LaDue Award in recognition of this growth. He currently serves on two ACA committees-Community Corrections and Workforce/Human Resources- as well as serving on the board of directors for three social service agencies in his hometown. Jerry is, in addition, a board member of the International Community Corrections Association.
