Betty Loren-Maltese's New Job

Chicago Tribune's Eric Zorn: Chicago's Safer Foundation has been working for three decades to smooth the re-entry into society of those released from prison. It is, in a very real sense, a crime-fighting organization.

You may have little sympathy for former Cicero Town President and recent federal inmate Betty Loren-Maltese -- I certainly feel that way -- and you may suspect, as I do,  that Salerno's Pizza in Oak Park has given her a job as a hostess (story) in large part because it will generate publicity for the restaurant.

But let's remember that, in general, it's a good, creditable thing when employers give ex cons a chance. Chicago's Safer Foundation has been working for three decades to smooth the re-entry into society of those released from prison.  It is, in a very real sense, a crime-fighting organization.
