The 99th Illinois General Assembly passed a number of laws to reduce employment restrictions for people with records. These laws will take effect next year. This document provided by the Restoring Rights and Opportunities Coalition of Illinois (RROCI) explains the changes that will be brought about by four such laws.
PA 99-0876: A new law to advance occupational licensing opportunities for people with conviction records
In 2016, Safer Foundation advocated for the enactment of HB 5973 (Rep. Marcus Evans Jr., Sen. Kwame Raoul). It was signed into law earlier this year. This document is a summary of Public Act 99-0876 which, effective 2017, changes licensing procedures for over a dozen licensed occupations under the Illinois Roofing Industry Licensing Act, Funeral Directors and Embalmers Licensing Code, and Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, Barbering, and Nail Technology Act of 1985.
