Tax Credits, Bonding and Other Incentives

Hiring a Safer client can help your bottom line.

Chicago Loop Alliance

Hiring our candidates can also come with substantial government incentives, such as tax credits and bonding. When your company hires our candidates and qualifies for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program, you will receive both federal and state tax credits.

The tax credit is up to $3,000 for qualifying hires; up to $2,400 federal and $600 in state credits. There is no limit on the number of candidates you can hire. To simplify the process, 95 percent of all businesses who take advantage of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program use a payroll service to complete the forms. For more information about tax incentives, contact the Illinois Department of Employment Security at (800) 244-5631 or visit www.ides.state.il.us/employer. We can also assist employers in submitting an application to the Federal Bonding Program, at no cost to either employer or employee. This bonding incentive/insurance will protect employers in the case of loss of money or property due to theft, forgery, larceny and/or embezzlement (up to $5,000) sustained through the acts of their employees. Illinois law protects employers who hire holders of Certificates of Rehabilitation by giving the employer immunity from any liability that could arise from employing a person with a criminal record. In addition, employers may qualify for subsidies on work equipment, clothing, on-the-job training and salary.

“From a numbers perspective, it’s an absolute advantage to consider people with criminal records when hiring. Beyond the tax breaks, very little differentiates someone with a criminal record and someone without one. Everyone needs to have an opportunity. That’s part of our commitment to our community. Safer provides a group of candidates that are readily available and eager to work.”
