Public policy interns assist with Safer Foundation's advocacy efforts

Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or Social Work BA, BS, MA, MS

Requirements

Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Strong research and writing skills for development and production of policy papers on topics related to the systemic barriers to employment for individuals with conviction records and strategies to reduce recidivism. Experience and/or interest in research, public policy, legislative affairs, and advocacy required. A genuine desire to support individuals with criminal records their rehabilitation efforts.

Description of Tasks

- Conduct research on designated topics.
- Conduct state official cold calls
- Assist in the writing of drafts of policy papers.
- Assist in preparation and conducting of agency meetings and conferences on related issues.
- Attend and report on designated public policy and advocacy meetings and events.
- Assist in development, preparation and distribution of public information/education materials.
- Other tasks as assigned.
