Volunteer Requirements

The following must be met in order to volunteer with Safer Foundation

    Over 300 volunteers work with Safer each year.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid state ID or passport
  • Able to successfully complete background and drug screens
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • If applicable, be out of jail/prison or off parole/probation for at least one year
  • Experience working with adult or juveniles with a criminal record or substance abusers is a plus.


Additional requirements for PACE Institute:

  • Able to pass Cook County Department of Corrections screening
  • Willing to commit at least one block of time (for example, one day or evening)on a weekly basis for a minimum of six weeks


Additional requirements for Adult Transition Centers (ATC):

  • IDOC application
  • Fingerprinting, tuberculosis test, drug test (once IDOC application is approved)
