Volunteer Requirements
The following must be met in order to volunteer with Safer Foundation
- At least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid state ID or passport
- Able to successfully complete background and drug screens
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- If applicable, be out of jail/prison or off parole/probation for at least one year
- Experience working with adult or juveniles with a criminal record or substance abusers is a plus.

Over 300 volunteers work with Safer each year.
Additional requirements for PACE Institute:
- Able to pass Cook County Department of Corrections screening
- Willing to commit at least one block of time (for example, one day or evening)on a weekly basis for a minimum of six weeks
Additional requirements for Adult Transition Centers (ATC):
- IDOC application
- Fingerprinting, tuberculosis test, drug test (once IDOC application is approved)
