Direct Services Safer Foundation provides a range of education, employment and support services to individuals with a criminal record. Some are delivered as community-based after-care services, while others are provided to residents of secured residential facilities. Learn more » Youth Services In response to the need within the growing population of juveniles with a criminal record, the Safer Foundation pioneered an innovative peer teaching methodology. In this active and inclusive environment young people help each other develop the skills needed to obtain a GED under the guidance of trained facilitators. Learn more » Adult Transition Centers Safer Foundation manages the secured residential centers on behalf of the Illinois Department of Corrections. These centers allow selected prisoners to begin the transition to employment, family and community prior to their release. Learn more » Sheridan Safer’s Sheridan job preparedness and placement program is unprecedented in its integration of substance abuse treatment with vocational preparedness training and work place acculturation to build on the talents, skills and attributes of approximately 1,000 participants each year. The Safer Foundation provides comprehensive job preparedness/placement programming to men incarcerated at the Sheridan Correctional Center, both during incarceration and after release. Learn more » Policy and Advocacy Safer Foundation builds a broad based community coalition to identify and advocate for policy and legislative changes to support the successful transition of returning the individual with a criminal record to the community, with a particular emphasis on removing barriers to their employment.
